So we’ve been talking a long time about how things are going to be gearing towards social sites and human interaction. Google recently just took more human response and consideration into effect with their newest search algorithm (which took effect back in February). Now the newest thing Google will be rolling out is called the “+1″ or “and 1″ system, and no we’re not talking about the freestyle basketball stars, we’re talking about Google’s own “Like” system.
You had to figure that the largest search engine and what was the largest user base would eventually catch on. Facebook is the new craze with more people logging in per day than using Google, it’s got things in a stir over in Mountain Valley, CA. But the ‘highest users’ predecessor has something in the works:
“+1 or and 1″ as they are calling it, which take social consideration into account now when dealing with results. According to Google: “The +1 button is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”
When people click the “+1″, it will publicly let others know that your giving it a thumbs up, or a stamp of approval. “+1′s” are going to help the users in the long run determine what is a good page or not when searching for things. It will also mean that things are going to show up higher in the search results based upon the number of “+1″‘s a website has.
We’ve all had the problem of not seeing the same search results as our friends across the globe, that’s why “+1′s” are going to make things easier for friends or people your connected to locate things.
A great example would be a cabin rental agency you visited in the North Georgia Mountains. You searched the term “Cabin Rentals North Georgia Mountains” and your IP (Internet Provider) is located in Atlanta and so are you. You clicked on the person in the #1 organic position and booked a cabin. You enjoyed your stay at the cabin rental agency and would recommend it to your friends so you “+1″ it.
Well your friend who wants to stay at a good cabin who lives in California asks you of a good cabin rental agency in the north Georgia mountains. You don’t remember the name of the cabin rental agency but tell your friend to search for the term “Cabin Rentals North Georgia Mountains” and told him to check the person out in the number #1 position. Little did you know that the search results are going to be different for the person viewing the same searched term in California than they are going to be a person searching in Atlanta.
With Google’s “+1″ feature, it would let you know that someone you know recommended this place, therefore making it easier for pages to be filtered by human recommendations.
We told you it was coming, and it will soon be here. Get Facebook and Twitter Fans now! They will soon be a part of ranking – “likes are the new links” we’ve been telling you this for a long time.
